A 13.2kW system (sometimes configured as 13.3kW, depending on the exact panels used) is about as large as residential solar gets before you're into commercial territory. It's built for big, energy-hungry households and small businesses. Here's what to know.
What a 13.2kW System Looks Like
- 28–30 panels using today's typical 440–475W panels, needing roughly 56–62m² of roof space — a decent-sized roof is essential
- Commonly paired with a 10kW inverter (the panels are deliberately oversized to lift real-world generation), sometimes a larger inverter depending on design
- Three-phase power is typically required at this size
What It Generates
Across QLD and NSW, a well-installed, unshaded 13.2kW system typically produces around 48–56kWh per day, averaged over the year. That's a large amount of energy — this size only makes sense if your usage (or your battery and EV charging) can genuinely make use of it.
Output figures are estimates based on industry-standard modelling for north-facing, unshaded roofs. Orientation, tilt, shading and weather all affect real-world results.
Who a 13.2kW System Suits
- Large, all-electric homes — think big families with ducted air conditioning, a pool, and one or more EVs
- Households planning a sizeable battery and wanting enough generation to fill it and cover heavy use
- Small businesses with substantial daytime load
Three-Phase & Roof Space
Two practical requirements matter most at this size: enough unshaded roof for 28–30 panels, and three-phase power for the connection and export headroom a system this large needs. We confirm both as part of your quote — if a 13.2kW system isn't the right fit for your property, we'll tell you and design something that is.
What Affects the Price of a 13.2kW System
Every property is different, so a tailored quote is the only real guide to your price. The main factors are component quality, the size and complexity of your roof, your location, and any three-phase connection work — which we quote separately and transparently. The federal incentive (below) is applied as an upfront discount.
The Federal Incentive (STCs)
A 13.2kW system in QLD or NSW earns roughly 90 small-scale technology certificates in 2026 — an incentive of about $3,200–$3,700 at recent certificate prices, applied as an upfront point-of-sale discount (already included above). The certificate count steps down each January until the scheme ends in 2030, and prices float with the market. Eligibility criteria apply; EFS Solar is not affiliated with any government body.
Payback
Most households and businesses installing a quality 13.2kW system see it pay for itself in roughly 4–7 years, depending on self-consumption, tariff, export rules and real-world output. Because a system this large only pays off if you use or store what it makes, right-sizing is everything. These are estimates only — actual results vary.

About the figures on this page: incentive, output and payback figures are market estimates as at July 2026, drawn from the Clean Energy Regulator's STC framework and published Australian solar output data. They are general guidance, not a quote — actual prices, incentives and results vary by home, location and market conditions.
