Solar farms are becoming increasingly popular as the world moves towards renewable energy sources. These massive solar power plants can generate a significant amount of electricity, quickly becoming some of the largest structures in the world. In this article, we will look

5-biggest-solar-farms-in-the-world

at five of the biggest solar farms in operation today.

Let’s start with this question:

WHAT IS A SOLAR FARM?

A solar farm, also known as a solar park or solar power station, is a large-scale photovoltaic system (PV system) designed to supply electricity to commercial and utility-scale customers. Solar farms are usually located in rural areas where there is plenty of open space to be used to install solar panels.

Solar farms are decentralised and usually consist of ground-mounted solar panels installed across large areas.

WHAT DO SOLAR ENERGY FARMS DO?

Solar farms generate electricity from the sun which can be used to power homes, businesses, and even entire cities. In addition, solar energy is a clean and renewable resource that can help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

Now that we know what solar farms are, let’s take a look at five of the biggest in the world:

NOOR COMPLEX SOLAR POWER PLANT, MOROCCO

The Noor Complex solar power plant is located in the Moroccan Sahara Desert. It is the largest solar farm in the world and can generate up to 580 MW of electricity. The plant covers an area of over 2700 hectares and consists of three solar power plants: Noor I, Noor II, and Noor III.

KAMUTHI, TAMIL NADU, INDIA

The Kamuthi solar power plant is located in Tamil Nadu, India. It has a capacity of 600 MW and covers an area of almost 1250 hectares. The solar farm was completed in 2016 and is India’s largest solar power plant.

LONGYANGXIA DAM SOLAR PARK, CHINA

The Longyangxia Dam solar park is located in China’s Qinghai Province. It has a capacity of 850 MW and covers an area of almost 2700 hectares. The solar farm was completed in 2013 and is China’s largest solar power plant.

KURNOOL ULTRA MEGA SOLAR PARK, INDIA

The Kurnool Ultra Mega solar park is located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It has a capacity of 1000 MW and covers an area of almost 5000 hectares. The solar farm was completed in 2016 and is the largest solar power plant in India.

SHAKTI STHALA, PAVAGADA, KARNATAKA, INDIA

The Shakti Sthala solar power plant is located in the Indian state of Karnataka. It has a capacity of 2000 MW and covers an area of almost 5250 hectares. The solar farm was completed in 2017 and is the largest solar power plant in India.

These are just five of the biggest solar farms in operation today. With the world moving towards renewable energy, we will likely see many more solar farms being built in the future.
